Dirt vs. Street -- Tire & Bike

"Dirt" Tire on the Street:
(1) Accelerated Wear
A less-than 3000 mile life wouldn't be surprising.
(2) Decreased Traction
You're more likely to find the back end "sliding out" when you attempt to brake or turn suddenly.
(3) Increased Vibration
"Knobs" don't roll as smoothly as other tires.
You can find plenty of "knobby" tires that are DOT approved, and street legal, like the Dunlop 606, or Continental TKC80.
But you'd be better served by a tire such as the Metzeler Tourance or Michelin Anakee -- sacrificing some "dirt-worthiness" for increased tire life and street capability

I can t even get a phone number for Continental Corporate Headquarters in the USA! All I get is a German number- Very frustrating! Quick 10 points if you help me locate one! Thanks! I m trying to get the set for this weekend

    • The reason you re getting a German address for Continental Tires Corporate HQ is because Continental Tires is a German company. While they do manufacture some automobile tires here in the States, all of their motorcycle tires are manufactured in Germany, and there are no exclusive factory dealers here in the USA. If you re trying to work on a warranty claim or similar problem, then you ll have to deal with the Germans. If you re looking to buy Continental tires for your motorcycle, then you can probably order them from your local motorcycle dealer s parts shop, or you could buy them online from …

My son s bike is badly in need of a front tire and he was wondering if Kenda tires were very good, they seem to be reasonably priced.

    • I have used Kenda tires for quads with good results. When it comes to my street bike I spend the few extra bucks for Dunlop s or Avon s.There s no way i d run a cheap tire on the road especially on a fast or a heavy bike.
